Playa del Carmen, Mexico

If one were to think of a small European town located in the Mexican Caribbean, Playa Del Carmen would come to mind. Located a bit closer to Cancun, yet miles away, Playa (as it is affectionately known) is quite a popular destination for those seeking a cosmopolitan town that is tranquil and brushed with Mayan culture. It is a veritable "melting pot" of European, American and Canadian residents/travelers along with Mayan/Spanish inhabitants. This combination makes for excellent dining, both fine and casual. A wide variety of hip, boutique hotels and multinational shops and nightclubs makes Playa have something to offer for everyone.

The main street, Quinta Avenida, or 5th Avenue, is a pedestrian walkway that is ever evolving and a vibrant part of the town. As in Puerto Aventuras, Playa offers a great base camp for the day trips we mentioned earlier as well as boasting an aviary, a stunning 18 hole golf course, Cenotes, Mayan ruins, incredible beaches, deep-sea fishing and the list goes on. The Cozumel ferry is also located a two blocks east of town and it is always a fun day trip to an incredibly beautiful island.

Playa never disappoints, in fact, we here at Sol Maya see a very high rate of return from previous travelers to the area. It is truly a special place. Let Sol Maya help you get there...
